FAQ

Find answers to frequently asked questions here

What are your RATES?
Baker Sound offers hourly as well as per-project rates. Please contact Ellen Kancher at 215-567-0400 or via email for details. For MONSTER TRACKS original music production rates, contact Music Director Chuck Butler.
What are your HOURS and how do I BOOK TIME?
Our normal hours of operation are Monday thru Friday, 9am to 5pm, however we can generally accommodate clients who require night or weekend sessions. Please contact Ellen Kancher at 215-567-0400 or via email for scheduling.
Can you help me find/book VOICE TALENT?
Baker Sound specializes in voice recording! Please visit the VOICELINK portion of our site. We are happy to recommend talent based on your script, which can be emailed to us here.
What VIDEO FORMATS can you work with?
Generally we can use any Quicktime movie that plays natively on Mac. This would normally include any files ending in a .mov, .mp4, or .mpg extension. The H.264 video codec currently offers the best balance of quality versus reasonable file size. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MUXED FILES as these do not work in our audio editing software. Please provide an OMF file if you have pre-edited audio in AVID or Final Cut that you would like us to work with. Contact Ellen Kancher or your engineer at 215-567-0400 for upload instructions.
What formats do you support for remote connections?
We use Source-Connect to connect remotely with voice talent and producers around the world. Our Source-Connect ID is bakersound. If you need to connect via ISDN or some other format, please contact Ellen Kancher at 215-567-0400 for further information.
How do I download files from your FTP site?
As of August 28, 2023 we have retired our in-house FTP server and transitioned file sharing to Dropbox. Your engineer will provide access instructions once your files are uploaded to Dropbox. Contact Ellen if you need a link to files previously uploaded to our FTP site.
I am a voice-over artist. Will you include me on VOICELINK?
Our policy is to include high-quality voice talent with whom we have direct production experience. We are always looking for talent, and are eager to receive your demo (see below). If we like your demo, we'll contact you about working with us, and if all goes well you may be added to VOICELINK.

Voice talent demos are welcome, and may be submitted here. Please send mp3 format only, no more than :60 in any one category (you may submit demos in any or all of our four major categories: commercial, narration, ethnic, and political).

How do I aquire the RIGHTS to use a piece of music in my project?
You need permission to use commerically available music (of any duration) in your project. If you intend to remake a song or composition, you'll need to contact the original publisher to negotiate a license. If you wish to use the original recording of a song or composition, you'll also need to contact the record label to negotiate a separate license.

Baker Sound does not handle licensing. If you are unfamiliar with licensing we recommend contacting a specialist to negotiate on your behalf and provide the proper documentation. We recommend contacting BZ Rights & Permissions or Playup.

Any library music you purchase from Baker Sound includes the necessary license (ask your engineer for details about coverage and limitations). Any original music you purchase from our MONSTER TRACKS division also includes the necessary license per our policy.

Can our BAND record at your studio?
Sorry, we do not record bands; however, you are welcome to send a recording of your band to our Music Director if you'd like to be considered for advertising work.
