IT'S RAINING CATS, DOGS, AND MEATBALLS

AT BAKER SOUND

After an action-packed summer and a fun-filled fall, it’s time to bring you up to speed on the latest news from Baker Sound.

Actor Neil Patrick Harris was in to voice characters for two animated features: the Sony Pictures hit Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Warner Brothers upcoming Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, scheduled for release this summer. Actress Saige Thompson (from ABC Family’s Samurai Girl) came by with director Jeff Chamberlain to do some ADR work on their new feature The Mine. And well-known voice actor Tom Kane stopped by to record trailers for the gory-but-fun Zombieland.

In advertising news, comedian/actor Joe Mortimer voiced a TV spot for Miller Light Home Draft. Acclaimed announcer Rodd Houston applied his talents to national spots for Verizon, and narrated Lethal Action for National Geographic. Gary Bridges continues to bring his vocal magic to national spots for Disney. Caspari McCormick has been busy, working on TV for Iron Hill Brewery and radio for Cabrini College. Signature Communications produced TV and radio for Crozer Keystone Orthopedics with spokesman and Eagles legend Vince Papale. And in our last newsletter we neglected to mention that Red Dot Radio and Hope Krosskove were in crafting new radio spots for Cooper Cancer Center. Since then, both Hope and Susan Young Hemphill have been back to work on separate projects for Atlanticare.

Baker Sound and Shadowbox Pictures worked together recently on the Gillespie Group’s new campaign for Right Choice Automotive. This amusing series of TV spots features original music by our MONSTER TRACKS original music division, as well as sound design by Baker President Rick DiDonato. MONSTER TRACKS was also tapped by M&M Advertising to produce a new jingle for Detroit’s Greektown Casino, based on the Martha and the Vandella’s classic Heatwave. And composer Chuck Butler scored spots for a number of political campaigns, most notably City Comptroller Bill Thompson’s bid to unseat incumbent Michael Bloomberg in the New York City mayoral race.

Baker teamed up with Tapeworks and The Silverman Group to work on radio and TV advertising for the new Philadelphia Union soccer team, recording the Polish American String Band as well as the renowned Sons of Ben, who performed their amazing repertoire of stadium chants in our studios. We also headed down to Citizens Bank Park to record Jimmy Rollins for Rickey Henderson’s Hall of Fame tribute. Director Ron Cohen of Out of the Blue Productions was in to polish the soundtrack for a new video for the American Association of Cancer Research. And Visual Innovations brought in mix-to-picture projects for Saint Joseph’s University and The Goddard School. We look forward to doing more work with Bill Nicoletti and his team, as Visual Innovations will be moving directly upstairs from us in the Musical Art Club building as of December 1. We welcome our friends at Visual Innovations to the building!

In the world of audiobooks, we were thrilled to have bestselling author Lisa Scottoline join us to record her new audiobook Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog: The Adventures of an Ordinary Woman. Baker engineer Jeff King also recorded a number of other new titles, including Unhallowed Ground by Heather Graham, Night of Thunder by Stephen Hunter, and Night World: Spellbinder by L. J. Smith.

We’d also like to take a moment to mention the passing of two Philadelphia voice legends. We recently lost Mel Alpern, long-time AFTRA Board member, and one of the classiest gentlemen to ever record at our facility; as well as the ubiquitous Jim Nettleton, who voiced thousands of spots, and whose smile and energy we’ll never forget. These two dear friends and colleagues will be sorely missed.

Finally, we'd like to congratulate the 2009 National League Champion Phillies on another brilliant season. And check out the picture of Rick (below right) with a pretty cool piece of hardware!
